The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has announced plans to launch a fully operational Virtual Branch by the end of September 2025. The initiative is aimed at improving compliance among employers, enhancing convenience, and ensuring better service delivery to contributors across Ghana.
Speaking at the 2025 Employers’ Breakfast Meeting in Accra, Director-General of SSNIT, Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney, said the meeting formed part of the Trust’s broader stakeholder engagement strategy. The objective is to align all stakeholders—especially employers—with SSNIT’s long-term vision of building a sustainable and transparent social security system for Ghanaian workers.
According to Mr. Biney, compliance remains a key concern, and SSNIT is addressing it through two main strategies: intensified engagement and digital transformation.
“We are engaging more—like we are doing today—because we believe education and dialogue make compliance easier,” he said. “And we are also bringing our services closer to the people, using digital platforms to make payments and registration more seamless.”
The upcoming virtual branch will provide 24/7 service access via phone, USSD, and internet, allowing users to get real-time feedback and support from SSNIT representatives. While the branch will be based at the head office, the digital nature of the service ensures nationwide accessibility.
“We’re confident that by the end of September, a fully digital, responsive, and convenient virtual branch will be live,” Mr. Biney assured. “This gives both employers and workers a timely and efficient way to interact with SSNIT.”
SSNIT is also stepping up its compliance monitoring, tracking employer contributions on a monthly basis. While the first line of action for non-compliant employers is engagement and support, legal enforcement measures are used when necessary.
For employees, Mr. Biney encouraged active participation in monitoring their pension contributions. He urged workers to review their quarterly statements to flag any discrepancies and ensure their employers are making the required payments.
“Like we say at SSNIT, foul-dash personal, you must take personal responsibility,” he added.
With these initiatives, SSNIT aims to create a more transparent, efficient, and worker-centered system to safeguard the pensions and future security of Ghana’s workforce.
