The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) generated US$1.011 billion in foreign exchange (FX) from its Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) gold trade operations in October 2026, strengthening efforts to support currency stability and boost Ghana’s foreign reserves.
The entire amount generated was sold to authorised commercial banks through the GoldBod GoFX platform to support stability in the country’s foreign exchange market.
In an announcement issued on November 2, 2026, GoldBod said the October performance was in line with its statutory mandate under Section 2(b) of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), which empowers it to generate foreign exchange through its gold trading operations.
Building on the October performance, the Board has projected to generate US$1.2 billion in foreign exchange from its ASM gold trade operations in November 2026.
However, out of the projected amount, US$800 million will be made available to commercial banks to support foreign exchange market stability during the month.
GoldBod explained that all foreign exchange sales would be conducted through its GoFX platform in accordance with the approved FX Sales and Intermediation Framework.
The framework, according to the Board, is designed to ensure transparency, fairness and regulatory compliance in the allocation and sale of foreign exchange to authorised commercial banks.
The Board further reaffirmed its commitment to generating foreign exchange for the country while supporting the accumulation of Ghana’s international reserves by the Bank of Ghana.
It said its operations would continue to align with the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP), which seeks to strengthen the country’s external reserve position.
The latest projection underscores GoldBod’s growing role in mobilising foreign exchange through the ASM gold trade sector and making resources available to support stability in Ghana’s currency market.
The announcement was signed by the Finance and Trade Directorate of the Ghana Gold Board.
