The call to save lives in Ghana has reached the Ghanaian community in Nashville, Tennessee, with the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, challenging Ghanaians abroad to become powerful advocates and partners in the Fund’s life-changing mission.
Engaging members of the Ghanaian community during her visit to Nashville, Ms Darko-Opoku made a passionate case for collective ownership of the Fund, urging Ghanaians in the diaspora not only to embrace its benefits but also to help mobilise the international support needed to expand its impact.
She explained how the GMTF is providing financial support for Ghanaians battling chronic diseases and requiring expensive specialised medical treatment, offering hope to patients and families who might otherwise struggle to afford life-saving care.
She stressed that the Fund represents an important national intervention that every Ghanaian should understand, support and help sustain, regardless of where they live.
The Administrator particularly called on the diaspora to use their networks, professional connections and influence to open doors to American hospitals, medical institutions, research centres, investors, foundations and philanthropists willing to partner with Ghana.
She identified opportunities for collaboration in specialist medical services, advanced medical technology, professional training, research, infrastructure development and financial support.
Ms Darko-Opoku emphasised that Ghanaians abroad could make an extraordinary difference by connecting Ghana’s healthcare needs with the expertise, resources and opportunities available in their host countries.
She urged community members to become ambassadors of the Fund by educating fellow Ghanaians, directing people who need assistance to the appropriate channels and helping attract credible international partnerships.
Her message carried a powerful appeal: the fight against chronic diseases and the high cost of specialised healthcare must not be left to government alone.
For Ghanaians in Nashville and across the diaspora, the opportunity is bigger than making financial contributions. It is about using their connections, expertise and goodwill to help save lives back home.
Because wherever Ghanaians may live, they can still make a difference in the life of someone who needs a second chance.
