The Bono East Regional Police Command has successfully returned a bag containing GH¢85,000.00 in cash to its rightful owner after it was found abandoned along the Techiman–Kumasi Highway.
The incident occurred on February 14, 2026, at about 4:20 a.m., when officers on duty at the Police Snap Check Point on the Techiman–Kumasi Highway spotted a bag lying by the roadside, suspected to have fallen from a moving vehicle.
Upon inspection, the officers, led by Inspector George Appiah and three other personnel, discovered that the bag contained a large sum of money. The bag also bore the name “Ofori” and a telephone number.
In line with standard procedures, the officers promptly handed the bag over to the Bono East Regional Police Command for further investigation.
The contact number found on the bag was called, and a 53-year-old businessman from Ashtown, Kumasi, identified as Stephen Ofori, responded and later reported to the police to claim ownership of the cash.
Mr. Ofori explained that the GH¢85,000.00 was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi aboard a commercial vehicle when the bag got lost.
The money was counted and verified in the presence of the claimant and police officers, and the total amount was confirmed to be GH¢85,000.00. After satisfactory explanation and verification, the police released the cash to the owner.
The Bono East Regional Police Command has commended the officers involved and the community members who assisted in drawing attention to the found bag, describing their actions as exemplary and reflective of integrity and professionalism.
The Command encouraged the public to continue cooperating with the police to promote safety, trust, and accountability in society.
