A group of dedicated supporters of former National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, drawn from all 16 regions of Ghana, have purchased and picked up nomination forms for him to contest the party’s National Chairmanship position.
The development signals growing support for Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s possible return to the party’s top leadership position as the NDC’s internal electoral process gathers momentum.
In a press statement issued by Lawyer Abdul-Basit Adam, an aide to Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo, the group’s initiative was acknowledged as an expression of confidence, affection and commitment to the former National Chairman.
According to the statement, the nomination forms were received on Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s behalf, with appreciation for the supporters’ initiative and show of confidence in his leadership.
“Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s intentions regarding the contest will be formally communicated upon his return to Ghana,” the statement said.
The clarification suggests that a definitive announcement on whether the former NDC National Chairman will enter the race is still pending.
The supporters, who reportedly represent all 16 regions of the country, have taken the initiative to secure the nomination forms, potentially positioning Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo for consideration in the party’s forthcoming national executive elections.
Their action comes as the NDC prepares for its internal electoral activities, which are expected to shape the party’s leadership and organisational direction.
The statement also expressed gratitude to party members and supporters for their continued goodwill and commitment to the NDC as the internal electoral process unfolds.
Lawyer Abdul-Basit Adam, popularly known as CoreAbdul, signed the statement in his capacity as an aide to Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo.
For now, attention is expected to focus on Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s response upon his return to Ghana and whether he will formally declare his intention to contest the National Chairmanship position.
