The Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa (COFAAA) has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including two ministers of state, as they traveled to Obuasi to engage in anti-illegal mining efforts.

In a solemn statement signed by Global President Comrade Adeola Adegoke, COFAAA paid tribute to the late Minister of Defence, Edward Boamah; Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed; NDC Vice Chairman and former Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Twum Ampadu; Flying Officer Ernest Addo; and Sergeant, all of whom perished in the crash involving a Z9 military helicopter.

“This painful loss reverberates beyond the borders of Ghana — it is a loss felt across Africa,” COFAAA noted, highlighting Ghana’s vital role in global cocoa production. “Ghana is not just any country in Africa, but a nation considered the heartbeat of cocoa in the world.”

Describing the fallen leaders as visionaries and passionate advocates for a more sustainable and secure continent, COFAAA emphasized their legacy in shaping policies that protect the environment and empower rural economies, including cocoa farming communities.

The Alliance extended its deepest condolences to the Government of Ghana, the bereaved families, and the broader cocoa sector, committing to honour the memory and mission of the departed.

“May Ghana find strength and unity in this moment of national mourning,” the statement concluded.
