Market women at the Berekum Rawlings Park Market have honoured Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for her dedication to advancing the cause of women. During a ceremony held on Wednesday, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was installed as the market queen mother, a symbolic recognition of her role in championing the progress of women across the country.

Speaking at the event, the deputy market queen mother, Madam Fati Bintu, praised Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for her consistent advocacy for women’s empowerment. According to Madam Bintu, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has a long history of working towards the betterment of women and has demonstrated a particular concern for the well-being of market traders. She expressed hope that the NDC would win the upcoming December 7 general elections and fulfil its promise to build a modern market for the traders at the Rawlings Park.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who is currently on a campaign tour in the Bono Region, expressed her gratitude to the market women for acknowledging her efforts. She reiterated the NDC’s commitment to supporting women in business, announcing that under the next NDC administration, a Women’s Development Bank would be established. The bank would offer loans to market women to help them grow their businesses and achieve financial independence.

Additionally, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured the traders that the NDC government would prioritize the renovation of the dilapidated market at Rawlings Park, creating a more conducive environment for commerce. She urged the market women to vote for the NDC presidential candidate, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming elections to ensure the realization of these promises.
