Alhaji Baba Sule Musa Agyemang has been conferred with a special award at this year’s birthday celebration (Maulid) in honour of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani, drawing applause from an enthusiastic gathering of Muslim faithful, community leaders, and dignitaries in Koforidua.

The presentation formed part of the Eastern Regional Maulid activities hosted by the Household of Sheikh Ishak Adam Fafana under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed Jalaldeen Ishak Fafana.

Organisers of the event said the recognition was instituted to spotlight individuals whose service strengthens faith, education, and community development, and values long associated with the Tijani tradition in the Eastern Region. The Koforidua Maulid itself has grown into a major annual fixture, complementing Ghana’s wider observances honouring Sheikh Ahmed Tijani, with recent editions highlighting Qur’anic recitations, devotional poetry (tahnia), and processions that draw participants from across the country.

Presenting the award, representatives of the host household praised Alhaji Baba Sule Musa Agyemang’s consistent support for faith-inspired initiatives and local development efforts. The citation read in part: “In recognition of your achievements and unwavering dedication. Your commitment and hard work have set a standard of excellence, and we are honoured to celebrate your accomplishments. May Almighty Allah continue to bless you abundantly. Presented by the household of Sheikh Ishak Adam Fafana under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed Jalaldeen Ishak Fafana.” The announcement was greeted with ululations and prayers as attendees offered congratulations and invoked blessings for Alhaji Baba Sule Musa Agyemang.

The Fafana household’s stewardship of the Koforidua Maulid has helped sustain the town’s standing as a historic centre of Tijani devotion in Ghana. Scholarship and recent documentation trace Koforidua’s Tijani heritage to the legacy of the late Sheikh Ahmad Tijani Abdul Rahman (popularly known as Mallam Tijani), a pillar behind religious education and communal projects in the area. An influence that contemporary leaders have continued to advance through annual Maulid programs and community initiatives.

This year’s Eastern Regional Maulid agenda featured Qur’anic recitations, praise chants, and sermons urging renewed commitment to service, unity, and discipline, motifs amplified by organisers in the run-up to the event and echoed across social media streams promoting the 2025 cycle of Tijani commemorations nationwide. The Koforidua programme formed part of a broader calendar of Tijani Maulid observances that attract people from all walks of life, and guests from all the 16 regions, reflecting the order’s reach within Ghana’s Muslim community.

In accepting the honour, Alhaji Agyemang turned his spotlight firmly on the young people gathered. He urged the youth to resist the lure of substance abuse, warning that drug use “will not help them in future” and insisting that “nobody who abuses drugs ever prospers in life.” He further admonished students to take their studies seriously, noting that diligence in education is what “can make their families and community proud of them.”

Alhaji Agyemang appealed to parents, Mosque leaders, and teachers to “speak with one voice” against emerging social vices and to create safe spaces where teenagers can seek help.

He again called for practical mentorship, such as apprenticeships, internships, and weekend reading clinics.
He encouraged the youth group to pair Qur’anic studies with digital literacy, saying the combination would open doors in entrepreneurship, public service, and scholarship. He also urged school authorities to revive debating societies and science clubs, describing them as “training grounds for confident, ethical leadership.”

As the gathering concluded with closing prayers, organisers reaffirmed their intention to deepen Koforidua’s role as a hub for Tijani education and social outreach, calling on well-wishers to rally around future charitable projects linked to the Maulid. For many in attendance, the recognition of Alhaji Baba Sule Musa Agyemang symbolised the values the celebration seeks to entrench, steadfast service, humility, and a commitment to uplifting the community in faith.
