A Ghanaian civil society organisation has appealed to the United Nations to take urgent and decisive action to prevent escalating global tensions and safeguard international peace, warning that prolonged conflicts and geopolitical rivalries threaten global stability, economic growth, and human survival.
In a formal petition dated January 20, 2026, the Founder and President of Save The Nation For Future Leaders, Kwadwo Atta Apeakorang, called on the UN Secretary-General, through the UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana, to intensify diplomatic engagement and multilateral efforts to de-escalate tensions involving major global powers, including Iran, Russia, the United States, and China.
The organisation expressed deep concern over recent developments in these countries, noting that rising hostilities and instability pose serious risks to international security, diplomatic relations, and global commerce. According to the petition, continued uncertainty has already disrupted global supply chains, weakened investor confidence, and undermined economic cooperation across regions.
While acknowledging the complexities of international diplomacy, the group cautioned that perceived inaction or limited engagement by the United Nations in the face of major global crises risks eroding public confidence in the organisation’s historic mandate to maintain world peace and security.
The petition further argued that global peace is essential for sustainable development, stressing that resources currently channelled into weapons production and military operations could be redirected towards environmental protection, climate action, and responsible resource management if conflicts are resolved.
Save The Nation For Future Leaders highlighted its longstanding engagement with the United Nations on peace advocacy, citing previous petitions in 2023, 2024, and 2025 calling for dialogue to end the Russia–Ukraine conflict and to prevent broader global instability.
The organisation reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the United Nations on peacebuilding initiatives that integrate environmental sustainability and responsible global citizenship, urging the world body to uphold its founding ideals through renewed leadership, mediation, and coordinated global action.
