The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has expressed sincere gratitude to MultiChoice Ghana, DStv and Canal+ for agreeing to a major reduction in DStv subscription prices in Ghana.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Accra, the Minister announced that the existing six DStv packages will be replaced with four simpler and cheaper packages from November 5, 2026.
Under the new structure, Starter will cost GH₵50 per month for 90 channels, Select will cost GH₵100 per month for more than 120 channels, Sports will cost GH₵250 per month for all sports, news and entertainment, and Ultimate, formerly Premium, will cost GH₵570 per month for the best of DStv, including golf, Formula 1, tennis, MotoGP and rugby.
The biggest relief is for sports lovers. Subscribers who previously paid between GH₵850 and GH₵875 for sports content will now pay only GH₵250, saving over GH₵500 every month. The Minister described the cut as more than 60 percent and a clear cash saving for Ghanaian families.
Sam George said the negotiations, which began in June 2025, were driven by one simple question: how to put content in the homes of Ghanaian families at an affordable price. He said the Ghanaian consumer remains the ultimate interest of government.
He thanked Canal+ for its cooperation, saying, “We must extend our sincere thanks to Canal+ for working with us to arrive at this point.”
He also addressed concerns raised after the previous price announcement, when some subscribers said they did not see a real cash reduction. “This time that’s been fixed. This time it’s clear,” he said.
The Minister said the lower prices will support government’s fight against piracy and illegal ghost boxes. A massive anti-piracy crackdown is expected to begin on November 5, subject to clearance from the Attorney-General.
MultiChoice Ghana Country CEO, Alex Okyere, confirmed the new prices are permanent and not a temporary promotion.
The announcement has drawn mixed reactions, with many football fans welcoming the GH₵250 Sports package, while others say they will believe it only when it reflects on their decoders on November 5.
