Traditional authorities and community leaders in the Salman area of the Western Region have publicly called on residents, the media, and the general public to disregard what they describe as false, malicious and misleading information concerning the operations of Adamus Mining Company.

In a signed public statement, the leaders alleged that misinformation about the company’s activities has been circulated by individuals they believe are linked to illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey. The statement contends that the information is intended to create public anxiety, undermine lawful mining operations, and strain the company’s relationship with host communities. The newspaper has not independently verified these allegations.

The signatories stated that Adamus Mining Company operates under Ghana’s mining laws and maintains that it continues to engage with local stakeholders through community consultations and development initiatives. They further expressed confidence in the company’s commitment to responsible mining practices, environmental stewardship, and peaceful coexistence with surrounding communities.

According to the statement, community leaders are encouraging residents and the wider public to rely on verified information from official sources rather than unverified reports circulating in communities or on social media.

The statement also appealed to state security agencies to investigate the spread of misinformation and any activities that may promote illegal mining, arguing that such actions could threaten public safety, community peace, and the rule of law.

The leaders reaffirmed what they described as their commitment to truth, transparency, and constructive engagement with all stakeholders in pursuit of the sustainable development of the Salman area.

The statement was issued through Nana Kwamena Bentum II, Chief of Salman, and bore the signatures of Justice Kwadu Amuzu and Rth. Jonas Kabutey (C.A.G.), together with the following community representatives:

Francis Whajah
Andrews Kofi Assuah
Hon. Banabas Ewereko
Hon. Francis Kwao Mensah
Beatrice Amihere

Copies of the statement were addressed to several public offices, including the Member of Parliament and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Armah Boah, the Western Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, the Divisional Police Commanders for Esiama and Axim, the BNI offices in Ellembelle District and Nzema East Municipality, and members of the media.

As of publication, no public response from individuals alleged in the statement to be spreading misinformation had been made available to the newspaper, and the allegations contained in the statement remain unverified.

The development comes amid continuing national discussions over responsible mining, environmental protection, and efforts by the Government of Ghana to combat illegal mining. Community leaders in Salman expressed hope that dialogue, lawful conduct, and cooperation among all stakeholders would help preserve peace while supporting sustainable development in the area.

The Daily Democrat will continue to follow the story and welcomes responses from any parties mentioned in connection with the issues raised.
