The Convener of the Saglemi Not For Sale Coalition, Nana Otu Darko, has issued a passionate plea to the Government of Ghana to halt any plans to sell the uncompleted Saglemi Housing Project to private entities. In a petition dated Monday, June 16, 2025, the coalition called for the immediate transfer of the national housing asset to TDC Ghana Ltd for completion and public use.

The Saglemi Housing Project, which was launched as a national response to Ghana’s chronic housing deficit, has remained abandoned for years despite significant public investment. The coalition insists that the project must remain under state control to fulfill its original purpose of providing affordable homes for ordinary Ghanaians.

“TDC Ghana Ltd is a wholly state-owned company with the technical expertise, experience, and credibility to complete the Saglemi project,” said Nana Otu Darko. “They have successfully delivered similar housing schemes and have the capacity to manage, supervise, and allocate the units in a manner that serves the public interest.”

The coalition highlighted TDC’s achievements, including the completion of 1,072 housing units at Kpone with 800 more under construction, 128 units at the Site 3 Infill Housing Project, and the provision of over 1,500 serviced plots at Community 24.

“Handing Saglemi over to TDC is not just the right thing to do technically; it is the moral thing to do. Public funds built this project, and it should benefit the public, not private developers,” Nana Otu Darko emphasized.

The petition demands that the government:

  • Cancel any proposed sale of the Saglemi Housing Project;
  • Officially transfer the project to TDC Ghana Ltd;
  • Provide financial and institutional support to ensure its timely completion.

According to the coalition, such a move will safeguard national investment, promote accountability, and help reduce the housing burden on ordinary Ghanaians.

“We are not asking for charity; we are demanding justice for the Ghanaian taxpayer. Saglemi must be completed by the State, for the people,” Nana Otu Darko concluded.
