The Saglemi Not For Sale Coalition has called on the Government of Ghana to transfer the uncompleted Saglemi Housing Project to TDC Ghana Ltd for completion, management, and allocation to the public.
In a petition addressed to the government, the coalition stressed that the project, originally conceived to address Ghana’s housing deficit, must remain under state ownership and be completed for the benefit of ordinary citizens.
They argued that TDC Ghana Ltd, a wholly state-owned entity with decades of experience in housing and infrastructure delivery, is best positioned to undertake the task. The organisation has successfully completed large-scale projects such as the Kpone Affordable Housing Project, the Site 3 Infill Housing Project, and the Community 24 Site and Services Scheme.
“TDC has the technical capacity, multidisciplinary expertise, and public sector orientation to complete the project efficiently and in the interest of Ghanaians,” the petition stated.
The coalition warned against the sale of the project to private interests, saying such a move would jeopardise public investment and undermine the national housing agenda. Instead, they called for the government to provide TDC with the necessary financial and institutional backing to resume and complete the works swiftly.
“The Saglemi Housing Project was built with public funds for public benefit. It must not be sold. It must be completed – and completed by the State for the people,” the statement concluded.
