The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a solemn statement issued on Thursday, August 7, PRINPAG extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government of Ghana, the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the entire nation.
Among the deceased were two senior government officials—Dr. Edward Omane-Boamah and Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed—as well as Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafimi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah.
Describing the crash near Adansi Sikaman in the Ashanti Region as a “devastating national tragedy,” PRINPAG emphasized that the contributions of the departed would not be forgotten.
The association further urged journalists across the country, especially its members, to approach their coverage with the highest standards of professionalism and ethical sensitivity.
“In this time of national mourning, we must report responsibly and compassionately,” PRINPAG stated. “Avoid sensationalism, verify all information, and respect the privacy of grieving families.”
The association called on the public to join in mourning the departed and allow families the space to grieve in peace.
“We stand in solidarity with the nation. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
