The National Youth Authority (NYA) has strongly condemned recent incidents of violence involving students during inter-school activities across the country, describing the acts as unacceptable and contrary to the values of discipline and respect expected of Ghanaian youth.
The condemnation follows reports of violent incidents during the District Schools Athletics Competition in Agona Swedru, where a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School was allegedly assaulted and subsequently hospitalized. Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
In a separate case, six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School were arrested for their alleged involvement in the assault of a final-year student of Adisadel College.
The Authority commended the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Education Service for their swift response and commitment to due process in addressing the incidents.
According to the NYA, such acts undermine the principles of healthy competition, discipline, and mutual respect that school activities are intended to promote. The Authority emphasized that violence has no place in educational institutions or among the youth.
The NYA further urged young people to exercise self-control and adhere to lawful conduct in line with the provisions of Ghana’s National Youth Policy, particularly in the areas of character development and responsible citizenship.
Reaffirming its commitment to promoting positive values and peaceful coexistence, the Authority announced plans to collaborate with the National Peace Council to intensify the Peace Ambassadors Initiative in second-cycle institutions to prevent future occurrences.
The NYA stressed that schools must remain safe spaces for learning, talent development, and constructive engagement, not arenas for violence.
