The Concerned Patriots for Change, a group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for sweeping reforms to address what they describe as the leadership’s failure in the 2024 general elections. At a press conference held on December 19, 2024, the group demanded the immediate dissolution of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the establishment of an interim committee to manage the party’s affairs until a new congress is held to elect capable leaders.
Gbande Nabin Yussif, the convener of the group, attributed the NPP’s defeat to poor planning, disorganization, and lack of accountability. He highlighted allegations of mismanagement of campaign funds, sidelining of experienced stakeholders, and abuse of power by party leadership. The group also demanded a comprehensive independent investigation into the root causes of the electoral loss, specifically the alleged misappropriation of GHS 300 million meant for grassroots mobilization under the GOTV initiative.
The group further called for the reinstatement of suspended members, including Alan Kyerematen and Paul Afoko, to foster unity and reconciliation. They proposed the establishment of a reconciliation committee and an urgent timeline for internal elections to replace the current leadership.
Additionally, the group emphasized the need for constitutional reforms to strengthen party democracy, including the reintroduction of the card system, expansion of the electoral college, and compilation of a fresh voter album.
Concluding their address, the Concerned Patriots for Change urged the party’s National Council and stakeholders to act decisively to rebuild the party’s integrity and restore public confidence ahead of future elections.
