The Acting Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), Mr. Yaw Amoah-Yeboah, has called for stronger collaboration among government, industry, academia, investors and development partners to accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation and position the country as one of Africa’s leading digital economies.
Speaking at the official launch of the 2026 National ICT Week Celebration, Mr. Amoah-Yeboah described the event as the beginning of a national movement aimed at driving innovation, creating jobs, attracting investment and empowering young people through technology.
He stressed that Ghana must not remain on the sidelines while other countries harness the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fintech and other emerging technologies, insisting that the country has the potential to lead Africa’s digital revolution.
The Acting Director-General said this year’s celebration, themed “Innovation at Scale: Creating Opportunities Across Ghana’s Digital Ecosystem,” seeks to ensure that innovation benefits every Ghanaian by extending digital solutions beyond conference rooms into classrooms, hospitals, farms, businesses, government institutions and local communities.
According to him, building a thriving digital economy requires collective action, noting that government alone cannot achieve the transformation without the active participation of the private sector, academia, development partners, innovators and citizens.
Mr. Amoah-Yeboah reaffirmed NITA’s commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure, enhancing interoperability across government institutions, improving digital public services, promoting cybersecurity and creating an enabling environment for innovation and business growth.
He announced that the 2026 National ICT Week will be held from 17 to 20 August 2026, bringing together innovators, policymakers, technology companies, startups, researchers, students, investors and development partners for exhibitions, high-level policy dialogues, investment forums and strategic partnership engagements.
He said the week-long activities will feature a major technology exhibition, discussions on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital finance, digital trust and national digital sovereignty, while creating opportunities for startups to connect with investors and forge long-term partnerships.
Mr. Amoah-Yeboah urged technology companies to showcase Ghanaian innovations, encouraged startups to leverage the platform to attract investment, and appealed to the media to champion Ghana’s digital transformation by highlighting local innovations and inspiring greater public interest in technology.
He expressed confidence that National ICT Week 2026 would help unlock new opportunities, stimulate innovation, attract investment and strengthen Ghana’s position as a competitive digital economy on the African continent.
