The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared Haruna Apau Wiredu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, as the Member of Parliament-elect for Fanteakwa North in the 2024 elections.

Mr. Adams Zackaria, the returning officer for the constituency, announced the results at Begoro in the presence of the deputy returning officer, Akobu Jakari, and other electoral officials. Haruna Apau Wiredu secured 11,137 votes, narrowly defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mr. Kodua, who garnered 10,847 votes.

The total valid votes cast were 21,987, with 581 ballots rejected, bringing the total votes to 22,566. The EC’s declaration reflects the NDC’s successful bid to flip the seat, which the NPP had won in the 2020 elections with 11,375 votes.

In 2020, the NPP’s Amankwa won with 47.79% of the vote, while Haruna Apau Wiredu of the NDC came close with 46.20%. The recent victory marks a significant shift in the political dynamics of Fanteakwa North, signaling growing support for the NDC in the constituency.

The declaration of Haruna Apau Wiredu as MP-elect underscores the competitive nature of the 2024 parliamentary elections and sets the stage for a new chapter in Fanteakwa North’s representation in Parliament.
