Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has commissioned an ultra-modern restaurant facility at its Head Office in Accra, marking a major step towards improving staff welfare and service efficiency.
The facility, operated as MJ Catering Services, is expected to provide affordable, hygienic, and convenient meals for Metro Mass staff as well as residents of surrounding communities, including Abossey Okai and Awudome Estate.
For years, staff of the state-owned transport company had raised concerns about the lack of accessible and affordable food options within the vicinity of the Head Office. Although food vendors operate nearby, many workers were compelled to order meals from distant parts of Accra, often incurring high delivery costs and experiencing long delays.
The commissioning of the restaurant is therefore seen as a significant relief, offering staff a dependable alternative that saves time and reduces daily expenses. Managed by an experienced caterer and supported by a professional kitchen team, the facility serves a wide range of local and continental dishes.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Monday, February 2, 2026, Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited, Cezario Kale, Esq., described the development as a historic milestone for the company.
He noted that the restaurant would not only cater for staff but also serve passengers and members of the public who patronize Metro Mass services.
According to him, the initiative aligns with management’s broader commitment to staff welfare and operational efficiency. He further assured workers that management would periodically subsidize meal costs to ensure affordability and sustainability.
“This is just the beginning of greater things to come for Metro Mass,” he stated, urging staff to fully patronize the facility.
On her part, the Chief Executive Officer of MJ Catering Services, Shirley Naana Osei Ampem, expressed gratitude to Metro Mass for the opportunity to partner with the company. She pledged to deliver quality meals at affordable prices, disclosing that meals would be available from as low as GHS30.
The restaurant operates under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, reinforcing Metro Mass’ efforts to leverage private sector expertise
enhance service delivery and staff welfare.
