President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to sustain the national clean-up effort by stepping out once again to keep their communities clean and healthy.
Addressing residents after participating in a clean-up exercise, the President thanked citizens for turning out in large numbers and urged them to repeat the exercise the following day as part of a collective responsibility to maintain clean surroundings.
“Thank you for coming out today. Let’s do this again tomorrow. It is our collective responsibility to keep our communities clean,” he stated.
The President emphasised that sanitation should not be seen as the sole responsibility of government agencies, but as a civic duty that requires active participation from every household and community.
“We must all step out of our homes tomorrow and get involved,” he added.
As part of the directive, President Mahama instructed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to ensure that debris cleared from drains and rubbish swept from homes are promptly collected and disposed of.
“I expect the MMDAs to clear off the debris we are clearing from the drains and the rubbish residents are sweeping out of their homes,” he said.
The President’s remarks form part of the #ResettingGhana agenda, which seeks to promote responsible citizenship, environmental sanitation and community participation in national development.
Residents who participated in the exercise cleared clogged drains, swept streets and removed waste from public spaces, activities aimed at reducing the risk of flooding and improving public health conditions.
The President reiterated that maintaining a clean environment requires consistency and collaboration between citizens, local authorities and community leaders.
He urged all Ghanaians to embrace the clean-up exercise as a regular habit rather than a one-off activity, stressing that cleaner communities contribute to healthier living conditions and a more attractive national environment.
