The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has issued a strong compliance notice to jewellery manufacturers, fabricators, and gold refineries operating in the country, warning that all entities engaged in gold-related activities must obtain valid licences or face sanctions under the law.
In the notice, GoldBod revealed that it has identified several operators conducting jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication, and gold refining activities without the required authorisation. The Board stressed that only duly licensed persons are permitted to operate within Ghana’s gold value chain.
According to GoldBod, engaging in gold trading, jewellery manufacturing, fabrication, or refining without a valid licence constitutes a criminal offence punishable under Act 1140.
The Board recalled that in a press statement issued on October 22, 2025, all existing jewellery manufacturers, fabricators, and gold refineries were directed to regularise their operations by December 31, 2025. That deadline has since elapsed, prompting decisive enforcement action.
As part of measures to ensure full compliance, GoldBod announced that a team of inspectors will be deployed nationwide beginning Monday, February 2, 2026. The inspection exercise is aimed at ensuring that only licensed operators are engaged in jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication, and gold refining activities across the country.
GoldBod also commended jewellery manufacturing entities that have complied with the licensing requirements and have successfully been issued jewellery and fabrication licences. These include Sourcechain Enterprise, Shepaj Limited Company, Koshuuz Enterprise, M.J. Jewellery Limited Company, Mahmoud’s Jewellery Limited, Agyaba Jewellery, Gold Casting, Goldlovers GH Limited, Wappahs Jewellery, Mahalaxmi Ghana Limited, and Sahara Jewellery Limited Company.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing laws and regulations governing the gold trading sector, emphasising that transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance remain central to its mandate.
GoldBod urged all operators yet to regularise their status to do so immediately to avoid sanctions.
