The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is projected to generate US$1.4 billion in foreign exchange in September 2026 under a new collaborative financing model introduced to support its gold operations.
According to GoldBod, the projected foreign exchange generation forms part of measures being implemented under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP) to strengthen Ghana’s foreign exchange market and accelerate reserve accumulation.
GoldBod said following the approval of GANRAP by Cabinet and Parliament, it concluded consultations with the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Ghana, commercial banks and other market stakeholders on a new financing model for its artisanal and small-scale mining gold operations.
Implementation of the new model commenced on August 3, 2026.
GoldBod disclosed that in August alone, it generated US$1.315 billion in foreign exchange under the new arrangement.
Out of the August amount, US$668.21 million was sold directly to commercial banks through spot sales and funded forward arrangements to support stability in the foreign exchange market.
A further US$646.59 million was made available to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation under GANRAP.
For September, GoldBod expects to generate US$1.4 billion in foreign exchange.
Of this amount, US$700 million will be made available to commercial banks to support foreign exchange market stability, while up to US$700 million will be provided to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation.
The development is expected to further deepen collaboration between GoldBod, the central bank and commercial banks in managing foreign exchange liquidity while supporting Ghana’s reserve accumulation efforts.
GoldBod said it remained committed to its statutory mandate of generating foreign exchange for Ghana and pledged to continue working transparently with all relevant stakeholders.
The announcement was issued by the Finance and Trading Directorate of the Ghana Gold Board on August 31, 2026.
