The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice. In a media briefing today, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that Ofori-Atta is wanted in connection with multiple corruption-related investigations, including financial dealings involving the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the controversial National Cathedral project.
The OSP revealed that Ofori-Atta, who left the country on January 2, 2025, has failed to comply with directives to return and assist in investigations. Despite claims of medical treatment abroad, the OSP dismissed his excuse, labeling it a ploy to evade justice. Agyebeng stated that if Ofori-Atta does not return voluntarily, legal steps will be taken to enforce his return.
Additionally, the OSP announced fresh investigations into the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), targeting questionable transactions related to Agyapa Royalties Limited and several other investment deals. Another major probe is focused on an alleged GHC1.3 billion embezzlement at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), implicating high-ranking officials.
In a separate development, six individuals have been charged with payroll fraud in the Northern Region following a corruption risk assessment conducted by the OSP and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department. The accused are set to face trial at the High Court in Tamale.
The OSP reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption and warned that no individual, regardless of status, will be shielded from accountability.
