The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for every Ghanaian, emphasizing the need for equity, sustainability, and collaboration across the health sector.

Speaking at a brief ceremony held at the Ministry of Health in Accra, Hon. Akandoh presented 35 critical medical items to the Tamale Teaching Hospital in response to its recent challenges. The donation included ICU ventilators, ECG machines, EEG and nebulizer sets, fetal heart detectors, cardiac monitors, anesthesia machines, and infant incubators.

The new CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital received the items on behalf of the facility. He was joined by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry, and other senior officials from both the Ministry and the Service.

In his remarks, the Minister acknowledged the harsh working conditions faced by health professionals over the past eight years and assured them of his full support under the government’s reset agenda. He called for stronger collaboration to reposition the sector and improve healthcare delivery nationwide.

“This sector is one of the most critical, and I am here with an open mind and new energy,” he said. “But I cannot do it alone. I need the cooperation of our doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and all other health professionals.”

He urged managers of health facilities to make the best use of available resources and avoid situations where the poor and helpless are denied timely healthcare due to lack of influence.

The Minister also appealed to health workers at the Tamale Teaching Hospital to call off their strike, assuring them of his willingness to engage on all outstanding concerns. “My doors are open. Let’s come together and strategize for the good of the sector,” he said.

He stressed the importance of sustainability and urged hospitals to leverage their internally generated funds to maintain equipment, instead of always depending on government to replace broken-down items.

“I am not perfect, but I am prepared to listen and work with everyone,” Hon. Akandoh stated, calling for mutual respect and a renewed commitment to serving the Ghanaian people.
