Bright Senior High School (BRISS), located at Akyem Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region, has been adjudged the best private senior high school in the Abuakwa North Municipality in recognition of its outstanding academic performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The school received the recognition from the Abuakwa North Municipal Education Directorate on Friday, October 16, 2026, at a ceremony held at the Directorate’s Conference Hall in Akyem Tafo.

As part of the ceremony, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Hon. Nana Kwame Ampaw Addo Frempong, popularly known as Chief Buffalo, donated laptop computers to the school’s NSMQ contestants and presented GH¢20,000 to support and reward their achievement.

The MP also pledged to pay the contestants’ tertiary education fees, a commitment expected to ease the financial burden on their parents and encourage them to pursue higher education.

Presenting the award to the school, the Municipal Education Director, Mrs Grace Adza-Wude, said BRISS had significantly enhanced the image of the municipality through its academic achievements.

She explained that the recognition was based on the school’s impressive performance in the recently concluded WASSCE, particularly in Science and Mathematics, as well as its historic feat as the first private school in the municipality to reach the semi-final stage of the NSMQ.

Mrs Adza-Wude commended the school’s management, teachers and students for their dedication, discipline and commitment to academic excellence.

She urged them to sustain their efforts and work towards achieving even greater success in subsequent examinations and academic competitions.

The MP, in his remarks, challenged other schools in the municipality to emulate BRISS by investing in academic excellence and encouraging students to participate in competitive educational programmes.

He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting quality education, describing it as a priority in efforts to improve opportunities for young people in the constituency.

Hon. Ampaw Addo Frempong also advised the youth to stay away from illicit drugs and remain focused on their education. He stressed that discipline, responsible choices and commitment to academic work were essential to building a successful future.

Receiving the award on behalf of the school, the Headmaster, Mr Dominic Acquah, expressed appreciation to the Municipal Education Directorate for the recognition and to the MP for his support.

He pledged that the school’s management would intensify efforts to improve academic performance and build on the success achieved in the NSMQ to enhance the institution’s reputation.

The school’s NSMQ contestants are Richmond Damoah Kwabena, Adjeley Naa Mercy and Buabasah Yatih Ocrah.

Their achievement has generated excitement within the school community, with students and staff giving the contestants a heroic welcome in recognition of their contribution to the school’s growing reputation.

The award presentation and donations underscore the importance of recognising academic achievement, supporting talented students and encouraging schools to pursue excellence in education.

The ceremony took place on October 16, 2026, at the Abuakwa North Municipal Education Directorate Conference Hall in Akyem Tafo.
