A 23-year-old mason name withheld has been remanded into police custody by the Bekwai Circuit Court over an alleged defilement case involving a 4-year-old child at Manso Afedie.

According to prosecutors, the suspect allegedly approached a group of children who were playing in a corridor and engaged them with his mobile phone. He is said to have taken advantage of the situation, but the incident was interrupted when the child’s aunt noticed suspicious behaviour and quickly intervened, drawing attention from nearby residents.

The matter was reported to community leaders and subsequently to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest. He was later arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court and remanded to assist with ongoing investigations.

The case is currently being handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU). A medical examination conducted at a health facility reportedly supports the claims presented by the prosecution.

Authorities have commended residents for their swift action and are urging the public to remain vigilant in protecting children. They also encourage the prompt reporting of any suspected abuse to the nearest police station or DOVVSU office.
