The Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu, has pledged to prioritize youth development and infrastructural improvement across the constituency, with a strong focus on sports as a tool for empowerment.
She made the pledge during a football tournament over the weekend, which brought together teams from various communities. Addressing the gathering, Hon. Dziwornu described sports—particularly football—as a powerful medium to harness the energy and talent of young people in Akuapem South.
“During my campaign, I witnessed incredible football talent across the constituency,” she said. “I am committed to regularly organizing football competitions to uncover and support these talents. So far, I’ve provided jerseys and balls, and I intend to continue supplying these sporting essentials.”
Hon. Dziwornu also announced plans to rehabilitate and upgrade football parks in various communities, assuring constituents of her intention to collaborate with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to secure standard sporting infrastructure.
Beyond sports, the MP outlined a broader development agenda. She disclosed plans to construct a new market to support local traders and stimulate economic activity. In response to persistent concerns about poor roads in the constituency, she assured residents that work is underway to address the issue.
“I have spoken with the Roads Minister, who has promised that key roads in Akuapem South will be prioritized for construction and rehabilitation,” she said. “Improved roads will facilitate business and bring relief to our people.”
Reflecting on her first seven months in Parliament, Hon. Dziwornu admitted that the journey has been challenging but educational. “I’ve learned a lot about the workings of Parliament and how best to push for development for my constituents,” she noted.
She ended her remarks by urging the youth to stay focused on both sports and education, stressing that other constituencies are progressing and Akuapem South must not be left behind.
Her message was well-received by community members, many of whom expressed optimism that her vision would bring tangible improvements to the area.
