Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has underscored the imperative for concerted efforts to alleviate the crippling burden of sickle cell disease on families and Ghana’s healthcare system.

Indeed, with a clarifying candor, she dissected the trifecta of challenges: exorbitant costs, inaccessible care, and the dearth of sustainable support mechanisms.

“We must galvanize our resolve to tackle this scourge head-on,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang declared, emphasizing the potency of prudent economic stewardship in unlocking fiscal spaces for expanded social protection and health interventions.

“Our administration is committed to impact-driven governance, building Ghana from the grassroots up, and ensuring inclusivity is the cornerstone of our development agenda.”

She reiterated that decentralization is pivotal to bridging the geographical divide in healthcare access, ensuring that the marginalized are not left behind.

“Access to care must not be a privilege, but a right accorded to all, irrespective of geography,” she asserted.

Highlighting Ghana’s burgeoning population, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed that sickle cell disease transcends the realm of marginal concerns; it is a pressing national issue demanding forthright action.

“We are resolute in our commitment to engage stakeholders, fortify preventive care, and envelop affected families in a cocoon of compassion and sustainable solutions.”

This impassioned call to action underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to dismantling the barriers to care and fostering a society where every Ghanaian can thrive, unencumbered by the shackles of sickle cell disease.
