The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has praised the display of unity and cooperation during the confirmation of Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) for the Krowor and Ayawaso East Municipal Assemblies.
Speaking after the confirmation ceremonies, Hon. Ocloo expressed satisfaction with the process, especially the 100% confirmation recorded at Krowor, describing it as a model for other constituencies.
“This is what we want to see,” she said. “Even the contestants who lost came together in support, and that’s commendable. We hope other areas will follow suit.”
She acknowledged that some constituencies are facing challenges and assured that her office will engage assembly members in those areas to resolve differences and ensure peaceful outcomes.
“We’ll start with the constituencies that are ready and likely to secure 100% confirmation. For those with challenges, we’ll sit with the assembly members to find amicable solutions.”
Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo also gave assurances about infrastructure support for Ayawaso East, promising a suitable office facility for the Municipal Assembly. “I have my Chief Director here, and we will work to get the office ready for smooth administrative operations,” she said.
The Regional Minister concluded by reaffirming her commitment to strengthening local governance through collaboration and peacebuilding.
A 40-year-old engineer, Mr. Paul Afotey Quaye, overwhelmingly was confirmed as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Krowor Municipal Assembly.
Mr. Quaye secured a unanimous 100% endorsement by polling all 17 “Yes” votes from the assembly members. The assembly currently has 18 members, comprising 11 elected and 7 appointed, but due to the passing of one member, 17 were eligible to vote.
The successful confirmation process in Krowor appears to have influenced proceedings at the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly, where the President’s nominee, Hon. Abdul Ibrahim Ganiyu, also received a unanimous endorsement.
Hon. Ganiyu garnered 16 “Yes” votes out of the 17 valid votes cast, becoming the second MCE for the municipality since its creation.
In a brief address after his confirmation, Hon. Ganiyu pledged to ensure that all decisions taken at the Assembly would be geared toward progress and development.
