The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has concluded a two-day workshop in Accra, aimed at equipping journalists with technical knowledge on forest management, the carbon market, and environmental sustainability. Funded by NORAD through OXFAM, the training sought to bridge knowledge gaps and empower journalists to report effectively on critical environmental issues.
Speaking after the workshop, Madam Rosemond Ayettey, Senior Programmes Manager at MFWA, highlighted the importance of the initiative. She noted that the carbon market, while promising, remains a relatively new and technical field with limited journalistic expertise.
“The training is designed to enhance journalists’ capacity in understanding the carbon market and its potential opportunities and challenges. As critical watchdogs and communicators, journalists need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge to report accurately and educate the public,” she stated.
Madam Ayettey expressed optimism that the training would inspire journalists to pursue impactful stories in areas such as carbon markets and forest management, fostering greater public awareness and understanding of these crucial topics.
