In the aftermath of violent clashes between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the early hours of Sunday, Hon. Alhaj Manaf, a former parliamentary candidate for the area, has made an urgent appeal for calm.
The altercation, which led to injuries and significant property damage, including the vandalism of Hon. Manaf’s own office has raised concerns about rising political tensions in the Ayawaso North Constituency. His office door was shattered during the violence, which he described as a deeply disturbing reflection of the political environment.
“As a victim of this violence and a concerned citizen, I appeal to all involved to exercise restraint and remain calm,” Hon. Manaf made these statements in a press release on Tuesday, 15th October, 2024.
“These acts of violence have no place in our democratic process, and it is crucial that peace and stability are prioritized.”
Hon. Manaf, therefore, appealed to the supporters from both political parties, as well as local residents and stakeholders, to avoid any further acts of violence or retaliation and to fully cooperate with the Ghana Police Service as investigation into the incident continues.
He emphasized the importance of allowing the police to bring those responsible to justice.

“We must reaffirm our commitment to peaceful coexistence, democratic values, and the rule of law,” Hon. Manaf added. “Let us work together to prevent such incidents from happening again and ensure a safe and democratic environment for all.”
The violence in Mamobi highlights the need for greater efforts to maintain peace as Ghana approaches another election season.
Even though the situation in the constituency remains tense, opinion leaders, including parliamentary candidates from both parties and authorities, are working to restore calm in the area. The former parliamentary candidate remains hopeful that, with collective action, such tensions can be peacefully resolved.
