Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has issued an unreserved apology over comments captured in a viral video suggesting that postings to Northern Ghana could be viewed as a form of punishment.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Minister described the remarks as a “genuine slip in communication” which, she said, did not reflect her actual views or the established policies governing staff postings within the Public Service.
According to her, the comments were made while responding to a media question concerning allegations that some technocrats involved in the improper issuance of development permits were sometimes reposted to nearby districts, allowing such practices to continue.
She explained that, in responding to the issue, she referred to situations where some officials had been transferred to areas far from their usual places of residence. However, she acknowledged that her choice of words created the unintended impression that postings to the northern part of the country were punitive.
“I sincerely acknowledge the concerns that this has generated and offer my unreserved apology to all Ghanaians, especially my brothers and sisters in the Northern Regions, for any misunderstanding, offence, or discomfort caused,” the statement said.
Hon. Ocloo further assured the public of her commitment to due process, equity, and professionalism in the discharge of her duties.
She stressed that all administrative decisions, including staff postings and transfers, would continue to be carried out strictly in accordance with laid-down rules and regulations, without prejudice.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister also reaffirmed her dedication to serving the people of the region with integrity, fairness, and accountability, while urging the public to treat the matter as clarified.
