The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), Mr. Simon Madjie, has urged staff to translate the knowledge acquired during a five-day investment promotion workshop into practical action to strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness in attracting foreign and domestic investments.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training programme in Accra, Mr. Madjie described the workshop as a significant milestone in building the Authority’s capacity to effectively promote, attract and facilitate investments into Ghana.
He said participants had gained practical skills in strategic investment promotion, investment intelligence, investor facilitation, stakeholder engagement, investment targeting, negotiations, investor aftercare, marketing and effective communication.
According to him, the training had enhanced the professional competence of staff while deepening their understanding of GIPA’s critical role in driving Ghana’s economic transformation.
Mr. Madjie observed that Ghana is operating in an increasingly competitive global investment environment, making it imperative for the Authority to continuously improve its services and remain an attractive destination for investors.
He challenged participants to regard the workshop as the beginning of a renewed commitment to excellence rather than the end of a learning process, urging them to apply the knowledge acquired, share it with colleagues and work together to improve service delivery across the institution.
The GIPA CEO also called on staff in the Authority’s regional offices to serve as ambassadors for investment promotion by actively marketing investment opportunities in their respective regions while providing responsive, professional and investor-focused services.
He reaffirmed management’s commitment to continuous staff development, stressing that building the capacity of employees remains essential to delivering on GIPA’s expanded mandate.
Mr. Madjie expressed appreciation to the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) for supporting the training programme, while also thanking the facilitators and participants for their commitment throughout the week.
Also addressing the ceremony, the Component Head for Investment Growth at GIZ, Mr. Simon Hochstein, congratulated GIPA on its transition from the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, describing the change as a major transformation in Ghana’s investment promotion agenda rather than a mere change of name.
He said the workshop formed part of GIZ’s broader support for Ghana’s sustainable economic development under the Invest for Jobs initiative, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Mr. Hochstein noted that modern investment promotion agencies must go beyond attracting capital by focusing on technology, innovation, skills development and sustainable partnerships that create long-term economic value.
He said participants had been introduced to modern approaches in investment intelligence, research, investment targeting, negotiations, investor aftercare and retention to support GIPA’s transformation into a customer relationship management-driven, one-stop investment promotion agency.
Reaffirming GIZ’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic development, Mr. Hochstein encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained, strengthen collaboration across departments and maintain an investor-centred approach to position Ghana as a preferred investment destination.
