The Deputy National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abigail Elorm, has criticised former Member of Parliament Hawa Koomson and also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Women’s organizer over what she describes as hypocrisy in her call for social justice, insisting that allegations of criminal conduct must be investigated without political favouritism.

In a strongly worded response, Ms Elorm cautioned against selective justice, arguing that Ghanaians deserve a justice system that treats allegations consistently, regardless of the individuals involved or their political affiliations.

“Your hypocrisy is sickening,” she declared, challenging Mrs Koomson’s position following her reported visit to the individual at the centre of the Ghana Jollof controversy.

Ms Elorm argued that demands for justice in one case should not be used to undermine investigations into other allegations, including those involving purported threats against the President and his wife.

“Ghanaians deserve justice, not a choice about which alleged crimes the police should investigate,” she maintained.

Calls for Equal Treatment Under the Law

Ms Elorm said her commitment to justice includes demanding thorough investigations into reported killings and allegations of sexual abuse involving schoolgirls.

However, she stressed that advocating justice for victims in those cases does not require the police to disregard allegations of threats against the President and his wife.

According to her, the existence of unresolved cases should strengthen calls for accountability across the board rather than provide grounds for dismissing other complaints.

“One unresolved crime is not a reason to ignore another,” she argued, emphasising that law enforcement must apply the same standards irrespective of political considerations.

Obuasi School Abuse Allegations

On the reported case involving Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Ms Elorm said developments in the matter, including the reported interdiction of the headmaster and the announcement of his arrest by the Interior Minister, should be acknowledged.

She called for a thorough investigation into the allegations, adequate protection for complainants and accountability for any failure to act appropriately on earlier reports.

The NDC deputy women’s organiser stressed that allegations of abuse involving students must be treated with the seriousness they deserve, regardless of the political identity or affiliations of anyone implicated.

“I will not shield anyone accused of abusing students, regardless of political affiliation,” she stated.

She added that complainants must receive protection and support, while anyone accused of wrongdoing must be afforded due process under the law.

Distinguishes Criticism from Threats

Turning to the Ghana Jollof controversy, Ms Elorm maintained that criticism of the President must be distinguished from an actual threat to his life.

She called on investigators to authenticate the recording at the centre of the controversy, establish the identity of the speaker and determine the context in which the alleged remarks were made.

An allegation, she stressed, does not amount to a conviction. However, she argued that political considerations should not prevent the police from examining the available evidence.

She said concerns about delays or selective enforcement should be addressed by demanding prompt investigations and equal treatment under the law, rather than seeking to abandon another case.

“If your concern is delay, demand urgency. If it is selective enforcement, demand equal treatment. Neither concern justifies abandoning another case,” she said.

Women’s Rights Must Not Become Partisan Tools

Ms Elorm further cautioned political leaders against turning the experiences of women and girls into instruments of partisan advantage.

She maintained that the protection of vulnerable people and the pursuit of justice should remain common priorities, regardless of political differences.

According to her, ordinary citizens deserve the same protection under the law as the President, while individuals who criticise political leaders should neither be persecuted nor granted immunity from legitimate investigations.

She called for investigations into reported killings, allegations of sexual abuse involving schoolgirls and the alleged threats against the President and his wife, insisting that evidence rather than political pressure must determine the outcome of each case.

“Investigate the killings. Pursue the abuse allegations. Examine the alleged threats. Let evidence, not political pressure, determine the outcome,” she said.

Her remarks reinforce her position that social justice must be universal and that no allegation should be ignored or pursued selectively because of the political interests of those involved.
