In a significant leap forward for Ghana’s energy sector, nLine, in partnership with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), has unveiled the groundbreaking Accra Power Quality and Reliability Dataset. This dataset, generated between 2018 and July 2024, provides unprecedented insights into the quality and reliability of electricity across 14 districts in Accra.

The dataset, created as part of the ECG Financial and Operational Turnaround Project, encompasses over 9 million data points from more than 1,200 sensors. These sensors measured the incidence of blackouts, brownouts, and whiteouts, offering detailed information on grid performance in real-time.

With granular data collected over six years, the dataset has revealed critical insights, including improvements in voltage quality and system reliability in districts like Roman Ridge and Korle-Bu, while highlighting areas in need of attention, such as Kasoa South, which recorded a high frequency of power outages in 2024.

Beyond the data itself, the release of the Accra Power Quality and Reliability Dataset has the potential to revolutionize energy management in Ghana. It offers decision-makers a clear path to targeted infrastructure investments and allows for faster, more effective responses to grid failures.

The transparency of this data will also empower citizens and advocacy groups to push for reforms where they are needed most, while researchers can utilize the data to explore the link between energy infrastructure and economic development.

By aligning with national goals for energy sustainability, this dataset not only lays the foundation for improving power delivery in Accra but also sets the stage for further expansion across Ghana and other African nations.

As Ghana seeks to modernize its energy infrastructure, the insights from nLine’s data will be a critical tool in driving effective, data-backed decisions.
