The Abbosey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has issued an ultimatum of two weeks to Government and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), to reconsider their decisions and suspend their intention to embark on compliance and invigilation exercise as a way of raising tax otherwise, they would staged a massive show down demonstration against them.
Government the Association stated, is taking traders in the country for granted as they keep on imposing unnecessary taxes on them.
This came to light at a press conference presented on behalf of the Association by the Head Of Communications, Mr. Takyi Addo in Accra.
Before the commencement of the press conference, members embarked on peaceful demonstration where all shops were closed down as a sign of expressing their anger against GRA.
Addressing the Media, Mr. Takyi said GRA has issued a new directives per a letter to conduct a compliance and invigilation exercise where some staff would be tasked to go and sit in their shops throughout the day just to monitor their sales and taxed them accordingly.
The Association members Mr. Takyi hinted, members of the Association have always been law abiding citizens of Ghana living in peace and providing services to their fellow citizens.
He said they don’t see why GRA has to invite their officers to come and sit in their shops from morning till they close, just in the name of raising revenue for the government. This he indicated would not happen because they are not going to allow that.
“GRA office is now deploying various forms of intimidation, harassment and threat making in the name of raising tax”.
The Association is however, Calling on all Ghanaians to speak out against the compliance and invigilation exercise which they described as intimidation and harassment against traders.
Mr. Takyi on behalf of the Association, demanded for a proper review of tax policy, reduction of import duties, abolish certain taxes and levies on importation.
