Since the conflict began on April 15, 2023, global and regional attention has been focused on the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, particularly the extensive displacement of individuals from their homes in various regions. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been implicated in numerous atrocities, with women, children, and the elderly bearing the brunt of their brutality.

*Displacement and Human Rights Abuses*

The conflict has led to massive displacements and human rights abuses, including over 100 recorded cases of sexual violence by the United Nations. In areas like Misteri, predominantly inhabited by the Masalit community, attacks by RSF and allied militias have resulted in numerous injuries and forced many to flee to Chad. The RSF’s actions, including village burnings and water source poisoning, have been targeted to deter people from returning.

*Ethnic Dimension of Violence*

In El Geneina, the conflict took on an ethnic dimension, with violence and killings based on race. The RSF’s actions have disproportionately affected ethnic minorities, leading to forced flight and loss of homes, jobs, and family members.

*Attacks and Massacres*

The RSF’s attacks have targeted villages inhabited by various ethnic groups, resulting in fatalities and widespread destruction. In Darfur, reports of arson and attacks suggest ethnic cleansing and ongoing massacres. The RSF’s actions have also extended to assassination attempts against human rights workers and attacks on vehicles transporting sick women and children from clinics, resulting in casualties and severe injuries.

*Violation of Agreements and Humanitarian Efforts*

Despite agreements made between the Sudanese Armed Forces and RSF to protect civilians and allow humanitarian operations, the RSF has consistently violated these terms. They have engaged in extortion against humanitarian organizations, hindering aid deliveries and escalating the crisis.

*International Response and Criticism*

The international and regional community has been criticized for its silence on the ongoing crisis. If violations continue, the region may face an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. The RSF’s actions have been condemned as crimes against humanity, and there are calls for increased efforts to protect civilians and aid delivery.

In summary, the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, exacerbated by the actions of the RSF militia, has resulted in widespread displacement, human rights abuses, and violations of agreements meant to protect civilians. Urgent international intervention is needed to address the crisis and prevent further atrocities.
