In a recent press release, the Zongo Caucus Coordinator of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency, Abdul-Zakiyu Adam, has raised serious concerns over the ongoing floods that have wreaked havoc in the Adoagyiri Zongo area, attributing the calamity to the negligence of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its representatives in the region. The floods, triggered by heavy downpours, have not only resulted in significant property damage but also posed a severe threat to the lives of the residents.
The recent rains have inundated residential buildings, leading to the destruction of valuable gadgets and properties worth hundreds of Ghana cedis. Additionally, the presence of uncovered culverts in the area has turned into death traps, particularly for school children, increasing the risk of accidents and fatalities.
Abdul-Zakiyu Adam pointed out that two years ago, the Assemblyman for the area, Abubakar Ibrahim, known as Abu Commander, took action by organizing excavators and funding the dredging of the main gutters in the region. This measure was intended to facilitate the smooth flow of the Bonyuma river that passes through Adoagyiri Zongo. However, since then, the NPP has failed to take further action to address the persistent flooding issue.
The Zongo Caucus Coordinator expressed his disappointment in the NPP, including the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Frank Annor Dompreh, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), for their lack of responsiveness to the pressing matter. He accused them of displaying gross insensitivity to the problems faced by the Zongo community, despite their desperate appeals for assistance.
Abdul-Zakiyu Adam directly questioned the intentions of the NPP and the MCE, urging them to prioritize the safety and well-being of the residents over political considerations. He called for immediate action to mitigate the floods, warning that failure to act promptly could result in further devastation and loss of life.
The Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency has also attested to the claims made by Abdul-Zakiyu Adam. The NDC has thrown its support behind the Zongo community’s plea for urgent intervention to combat the flooding and protect its residents.
As the situation in Adoagyiri Zongo remains critical, it is evident that the negligence of the NPP and its representatives has significantly contributed to the current predicament. The affected residents anxiously await the prompt and comprehensive action promised by the NPP to alleviate their hardships and ensure their safety.
The media has reached out to the NPP, MP Frank Annor Dompreh, and the MCE for their response to the allegations of negligence, but no official statements have been released at the time of reporting.

Note: This news report is based on the press release provided by the Zongo Caucus Coordinator and has not been independently verified by the news agency. Further updates and responses from the NPP, MP, and MCE will be covered as they are received.
