The Wa High Court has sentenced a man identified as Shariff Abdulai to life imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to multiple counts of murder across several communities in northern Ghana.
The conviction followed proceedings on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, where the accused admitted to killing twenty-three (23) people in various locations.
According to details presented in court, Abdulai—also known as “Cristos”—confessed to killing sixteen (16) victims in Wa, five (5) in Bole, and one person each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect was arrested on October 6, 2025, following sustained intelligence-led operations carried out by the Ghana Police Service. The arrest brought to an end months of investigations into the disturbing string of killings that had caused fear and anxiety in affected communities.
After his arrest, the accused was processed through the District Magistrate Court, which committed him to stand trial before the High Court.
During the High Court proceedings in Wa, Abdulai, who was represented by legal counsel, entered a guilty plea to the charges brought against him.
Presiding over the case, Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi accepted the plea and subsequently sentenced the convict to life imprisonment with hard labour.
Following the sentencing, authorities indicated that Abdulai will serve his prison term at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
Security officials say the case demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies to pursue justice and protect citizens from violent crime.
The police command reiterated its resolve to continue working tirelessly to uphold the rule of law and ensure a safe and secure environment for law-abiding residents across the country.
