In the wake of Ghana’s recent National Prayer and Thanksgiving service, the leader of the 7th Pentecostal Assemblies, Elder Enoch Ofori Junior has made a profound call that must not go unheard.
The Bible Scholar underscores the need for Ghanaians to undergo a renewal of the mind if the country is to see true transformation, especially in the fight against corruption.
Elder Ofori Jnr told the Daily Democrat in an executive interview that prayer is a powerful spiritual tool; however, it must be followed by practical action, beginning with a change in mindset.
According to him, the battle against corruption across all sectors; from public institutions to private dealings failed despite numerous prayers, pledges, and policy measures, the nation still struggles with integrity to confront it.
Elder Enoch Ofori emphasized that though the National Prayer and Thanksgiving service is important in seeking divine guidance and mercy, God’s blessings cannot dwell in a corrupt and unrepentant nation…but a genuine change in attitudes, habits, and values, prayer becomes nothing more than a religious routine.
“Corruption is not only in the leaders; it is in the heart of the people. Renewal of mind means choosing honesty when no one is watching,” Elder Enoch Ofori said.
He stressed that not only politicians can play the role in curbing corruption but teachers, pastors, market women, students, police officers, and media personnel must all play their part. Ghana cannot move forward if her people are praying with their mouths but scheme their minds.
He however called on churches and mosques to focus less on prosperity preaching and more on character-building, and nation-building. The renewal must happen in the pulpits, in schools, in homes, and in the heart of every Ghanaian.
As we reflect on the National Prayer and Thanksgiving service, Elder Enoch Ofori was clear in his message that, if Ghana is to rise, her people must think differently, act righteously, and live honorably. Prayer should lead to transformation, not just celebration.
“Corruption ends where renewal of the mind begins”. Let the change start with you. He concluded.
