Prof. Fred Awaah, Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Sports Authority has called for a fundamental shift in how sports in Ghana is funded, saying the era of relying solely on state support is over.

Speaking at the official inauguration of the Resource Mobilisation and Partnership (RMP) Committee on Friday, 14th August 2026, Prof. Awaah described the event as a decisive turning point in the governance and financial sustainability of sports. He said achieving the NSA’s bold vision for youth empowerment, modern infrastructure, and athletic excellence will require innovation and high-value, mutually beneficial partnerships with the private sector and international agencies.

Prof. Awaah, disclosed that, the RMP initiative is a concrete part of the NSA’s broader Reset and Transformation Agenda. He charged the newly appointed five-member team to make their Terms of Reference their “compass” in driving aggressive outreach, ensuring fiscal sustainability, and embedding transparency in all resource management.

The committee is chaired by Mr. Samson Deen, with Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah as Co-Chairman, and members Hajia Zenabu Sulemana, Alhaji Mutawakilu Iddrisu, and Mavis Ekua Enyamah Kwainoe as Secretary.

The Board Chairman also used the platform to commend leadership and set the tone for the work ahead. He praised Mr. Deen for securing the inauguration venue and logistics at zero cost to the NSA, describing it as the kind of “patriotism, selflessness, and operational efficiency” the Reset Agenda demands. Prof. Awaah assured the committee of the Board’s unwavering commitment and full institutional backing to clear bottlenecks and give them strategic leverage.

Concluding his address, Prof. Awaah appealed directly to corporate partners and the media. He said the media must not only amplify the NSA’s vision and celebrate athletes, but also serve as critical allies in upholding accountability.

“The path to self-sustaining sports development requires bold action and collective resolve. Let us reset our strategies, mobilize our collective strength, and transform sports into a vibrant sector of economic growth and national pride.” He stated.
