The National Premix Fuel Secretariat (NPFS) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a consistent and efficient supply of premix fuel to support the activities of fisherfolk across the country.
The Secretariat said it remains focused on meeting the expectations of fishing communities by strengthening the premix fuel supply chain, improving monitoring mechanisms and ensuring that the government’s subsidised premix fuel programme delivers the intended benefits to fishermen and women across Ghana.
The Administrator of the National Premix Fuel Secretariat, Mr. Ebow Mensah, said the government recognises the important contribution of fisherfolk to the country’s economy and will continue to implement measures aimed at guaranteeing reliable access to premix fuel for fishing operations.
Mr. Mensah explained that the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has addressed outstanding financial obligations arising from under-recoveries associated with the premix fuel programme.
He disclosed that GH¢91.2 million Ghana cedis was paid to clear inherited under-recoveries by the current administration. Last year 2025, under-recoveries amounting to GH¢156,911,773.18 was cleared. In 2026, GH¢17,398,931.27 has so far been paid covering January to August.
For January to May 2026, under-recovery amounting to GH¢17,398,931.27 has been paid by government. The intervention demonstrates government’s commitment to maintaining a sustainable premix fuel supply system and reducing disruptions affecting fishing communities.
He further disclosed that 29,511,000 liters of premix fuel has been supplied to fishermen between the period of January to August 2026.
Strict Enforcement of Approved Premix Fuel Prices
The Administrator warned Landing Beach Committees (LBCs) against selling premix fuel above approved prices announced by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
All LBCs have been cautioned that premix fuel is a subsidised product intended to support fishing communities and must not be diverted, hoarded or sold at unauthorised prices.
The current approved prices effective September 1–15, 2026 are: Per litre: GH¢5.51; Per gallon: GH¢24.80; 50 gallons: GH¢1,240; 70 gallons: GH¢1,736; 80 gallons: GH¢1,984; Yellow gallon: GH¢174; Approved OMC charge: GH¢71,762 per load.
Offences Under Premix Fuel Regulations
Regulation 28 of the National Premix Fuel Committee Regulations, 2016 states that a person who diverts premix fuel to an unapproved destination, sells premix fuel above the government approved price, or hoards premix fuel commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to an administrative penalty of two thousand penalty units or imprisonment of not more than two years or both.
The Secretariat remains committed to ensuring that subsidised premix fuel reaches its intended beneficiaries and supports Ghana’s fishing industry.
