A group of concerned branch members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Krowor Constituency has called for the immediate suspension of the ongoing branch elections, citing alleged irregularities that they say threaten the integrity of the party’s internal democratic processes.
In a statement, the members appealed to the Greater Accra Regional Secretariat and the National Elections Directorate to halt the elections until an independent forensic audit of the constituency’s branch register and branch structures is conducted.
According to the group, there have been allegations of unauthorized alterations to branch registers, including the addition of individuals perceived to be loyal to the Constituency Chairman and the Member of Parliament, despite claims that some of them do not belong to the affected branches. They also alleged that names of existing branch executives believed to oppose the current leadership had been removed from the register.
The statement further claimed that newly created branches had been populated with individuals aligned with the political interests of the MP without following the provisions of the NDC Constitution.
The concerned members also questioned the affirmation of some unopposed branch executives on June 21, 2026, alleging that the exercise was conducted without the knowledge or participation of branch members and outside the established practice of open affirmations at branch meeting grounds.
They also expressed concern over the existence of what they described as branches that may exist only on paper, calling for verification of whether all branches scheduled to participate in the elections are active and properly constituted.
The group further accused the regional representative, Delphina Jones, and the three-member election committee of failing to guarantee a free, fair and transparent electoral process. They argued that the committee chairman, Mike Terkpetey Narh Esq., who also serves as an aide to the constituency MP, faces a conflict of interest in overseeing the elections.
Additionally, the members criticized what they described as inadequate notice for aspirants to prepare for the elections, saying that a one-day notice was unfair and could disenfranchise contestants who are not aligned with the current constituency leadership.
They are therefore demanding an independent audit to determine the authenticity of the branch register, establish whether unauthorized additions or deletions have been made, verify the legitimacy of all participating branches, and assess whether the affirmation process complied with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
The group also called for the dissolution of the current election committee and the withdrawal of Delphina Jones as the regional representative overseeing the exercise.
They maintained that their concerns are intended to protect the credibility of the NDC’s internal democratic processes rather than target any individual, stressing that transparent and credible branch elections are essential to preserving the confidence of the party’s grassroots membership.
