The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ketu South strongly condemns the actions, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate, Mr. Wisdom Doe Haligah (Patit) for illegally selling ECG meters to the constituents of Ketu South for GhC 2,200 and in some areas 130.000 CFA

Mr. Haligah was heard last week in an interview on Aflao-based radio station, Holy FM, bragging about having over 1000 ECG meters for sale and calling on constituents interested to contact him.

This act is not only an act of extortion of constituents, but also goes against the principles of fair and affordable access to electricity for all citizens, as well as a clear violation of the Electricity Act, 2007 (Act 707) and the ECG Regulations, 2012 (L.I.). 2117) which prohibits the unauthorized sale, installation, and distribution of ECG meters.

The NDC firmly holds the belief that electricity is a basic right and should not be exploited for personal gain or political advantage. The reason why we distributed same meters with polls and wires for free to hundreds of communities in Ketu South under the rural electrification project during our tenure in office.

The actions of the NPP Parliamentary Candidate not only undermines the effort of the previous NDC government to improve rural electrification, but also an exploitation of the vulnerable constituents of Ketu South. Selling these meters at such an exorbitant price against the approved price of GhC 1,250 is an injustice and a clear indication of greed and a lack of compassion for the people.

Mr. Haligah has clearly demonstrated a high level of selfishness and inability to lead the people of Ketu South in any capacity.

The NDC is demanding answers from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) regarding the unauthorized sale of meters by an aspiring Parliamentary Candidate.

We want to know how this individual acquired these meters, as thousands of ECG customers have applied and paid for the same meters at ECG offices, but have not yet received them for close to a year now and in some cases over a year.

The NDC demands transparency and accountability from the ECG, hence calling on the appropriate authorities to urgently investigate this matter thoroughly and take the necessary action..

Our citizens deserve answers, and we will continue to push for the truth behind this ongoing rip-off.

We urge the people of Ketu South to remain vigilant and not allow themselves to be taken advantage of by those seeking personal gain at the expense of the community. As we continue to advocate for their rights to affordable and accessible electricity.

The next NDC government promises to resume the free rural electrification project and resolve the billing and other electricity challenges bedeviling Ketu south as well as ensure a fair and just society where access to essential services, such as electricity is not compromised for personal gain.
