The Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) is advocating for permanent representation on the Ghana Export-Import (EXIM) Bank Board to drive policy development and implementation aligned with Ghana’s goal of building a resilient, export-led economy.
Established in 1992 through a collaboration between the Government of Ghana and USAID, FAGE represents over 1,500 companies across agriculture, manufacturing, handicrafts, and textiles. The organization has been instrumental in promoting Ghana’s non-traditional exports (NTEs) and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in global markets.
FAGE’s contributions include facilitating Ghana’s participation in international trade fairs such as the Fruit Logistica Fair in Germany, hosting the GLOBALG.A.P Tour in 2015, and initiating the National Annual Mango Week. The organization has also led capacity-building programs, including HACCP training and export workshops, supported by partners like BUSAC and the Skills Development Fund.
The vision behind the establishment of Ghana EXIM Bank by the John Mahama administration in 2016 under Act 911 aligns closely with FAGE’s mission. EXIM Bank’s core mandate is to support Ghana’s transition to an export-led economy by facilitating cross-border trade, supporting Ghanaian investments abroad, and addressing market failures to enhance global competitiveness.
FAGE believes that its permanent representation on the EXIM Bank Board is critical for policy coherence and effective implementation. This partnership would strengthen the link between private-sector exporters and government policies, ensuring a sustainable economic transformation.
With support from international development partners like GIZ, UNIDO, and the European Union, FAGE continues to shape Ghana’s export landscape, particularly in horticulture and agribusiness. By fostering innovation and collaboration, FAGE is a key driver of economic growth and wealth creation in Ghana.
