Director of Elections and IT of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has admonished the Electoral Commission to as a matter of urgency conduct a forensic audit of the voter roll or will be forced to that when the NDC assumes office in 2025.
According to him, the Electoral Commission is a crime scene and must be forced to do the right thing as NDC poised to stay a step ahead of them since the commission has lost its credibility.
The NDC and other stakeholders have in recent times raised issues with the register; calling on the Electoral Commission to rectify the errors through a forensic audit; a demand which the EC has objected to. Amongst the issues raised by the NDC on the register include a 243,540 previous transfers illegally added to the 2024 transfers including repetition of illegally transferred names, over 15,000 unidentifiable voter transfer paths of which their original place of registration is not known, 2,094 voters transferred to different polling stations but are not on the Absent Voter transfer list among others.
The NDC is therefore staging a nationwide demonstration on Tuesday, 17th September calling on the EC to either conduct a forensic audit, provide it with the updated version of the register or re-exhibition of same.
Speaking with Beposohemaa on Power FM/TV XYZ Dr. Omane Boamah said “The EC will be forced to swallow the medicine that will heal its disease and it is either they take it now or they will take it in 2025 when John Mahama is the president of Ghana.”
He said the NDC knows how to block each strategy the EC comes out with to rig the Elections hence its decision not to submit its observations to the commission.
“Everything we EC expose to the E, they try to find justification for it, Look, the EC is a crime scene, and when you are dealing wih people who aids in criminality, you always have to be a step ahead of them,” he said.
He further stated that “all we are saying is that the EC should select their IT officials, NPP should do same as well as all other stakeholders and engage a consultant to audit the register to ensure transparency and fairness in the upcoming elections. Is that too much to ask for?” he quizzed.
According to Dr. Omane Bpoamah, the EC is afraid of the audit because they know the exercise will display its dishonesty and rigging strategy; assuring that the NDC will not relent on its efforts by ensuring that every rigging attempt by the commission is identified and foiled to safeguard the will of the people.
He therefore called on all to join the demonsration to register their displeasure over the development and call for the right thing to be done.
