Two 1982 Year Group students of the Ghana National College, residing in the dispora, collaborated with the head of the Home Economics Department and students to produce mosquito repellent for the college.
The old students Nana Phyllis Renner and Nana Christina Ghartey, both of the 1982 year group, later donated some mosquito repellent made from Shea butter and cloves. The items were distributed to the dormitories. .. …
The items were received at the school gate by the Assistant Headmistress for Domestic Affairs, Madam Gifty Arthur.
In expressing gratitude to the old students, the Headmaster, Nana Joseph Ato Sarpong, also an alumnus of the school, thanked the group and assured them the repellent would be used for its intended purpose. He further encouraged other old students, both home and abroad, to support this commendable initiative.
Madam Wilhelmina Sam, head of the Home Economics Department, praised the quality of the repellent, saying, “I have personally used it at home, and the results are impressive. The repellent is sweet-scented, non-irritating, and leaves a pleasant fragrance on the skin. I strongly recommend that more philanthropists join this effort to produce it in larger quantities for use in secondary schools to help combat malaria.”
Students who tested the mosquito repellent also gave positive feedback, citing its effectiveness and pleasant fragrance.
