Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), a once celebrated broadcaster, has officially joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and endorsed John Mahama. While his decision may not be inherently wrong, it’s a misguided attempt to revive a dead career. From where I sit, KOD’s addition to the NDC will yield nothing but disappointment.

As a yesteryear’s man, he fails to resonate with any voter demographic in politics. His uninspiring podium performance and lack of charisma last Saturday make him an unlikely asset to the party. Oh boy,his speech was so uninspiring that the camera operators were like, “Nah, we’re good. We’ll just capture the wallpaper instead.

In politics, charisma and the ability to inspire are crucial and KOD’s lack thereof makes him a misfit in this arena. His endorsement of Mahama, while well-intentioned, will likely fall flat with voters who crave fresh perspectives.

In contrast, Shamima Muslim, another media personality, inspired the crowds with her passion, but her attempt to impress the dais led to a meandering speech.

Her passion and conviction were obvious, and she was undoubtedly on point. However, her attempt to impress the dais by cramming too much into her speech detracted from her overall impact.

As a broadcaster, Shamima has a natural charm and general appeal that resonates with audiences. She has a unique ability to connect with people, and her authenticity shines through. But, in her eagerness to impress, she forgot a crucial lesson: sometimes, less is more.

Despite this, Shamima’s performance is an indication of her potential as a compelling voice in the political arena. With a bit more restraint and strategic communication, she could become a formidable force, inspiring and motivating voters.

The NDC must recognise the value of loyal media personalities who have stood by them through thick and thin, rather than chasing after Johnny-come-latelys (JCCs) like kOD, who offer nothing but a faded reputation. KOD is indeed a yesteryear’s man, and his endorsement will not sway voters.

The party must focus on nurturing genuine relationships with media personalities who share their vision and values, rather than seeking to revive dead careers. Only then can they build a strong, resonant message that inspires voters and drives meaningful change.
