The Assemblyman for Awutu Aberful Samsamso Electoral Area in the Central Region, Hon. Emmanuel Ashiabie, has stated that it is time to set the records straight that Assembly members can only lobby to get development projects for their people but they personally cannot fund projects from their own pockets.
Hon. Ashiabie, who is also Awutu Bontrase Area Council Chairman, said they are never given any financial allocation by the government for local level Development.
He also added that it is only MPs and Ministers that such get such allocations for Development projects. Due to this , he said he has always told his people the truth that Assemblyman has to lobby knowing that some would not believe that and can even hate him.
Speaking to the Media recently in an interview at Awutu Aberful in the Awutu Senya West Constituency, Hon Ashiabie continued and said that ,for example no MP or Assemblyman cannot with his own resources build Hospitals , roads , and other big projects for his or her area if government does not come in.
He further noted that it is rather ministers who are mandated and financed to embark on such big national projects.
He emphasized that, Assembly members are not paid so it is clear that they cannot get or use their own pocket money to embark on development projects.
Hon Ashiabie indicated however that at times he partners the media or engages them to get development for his people through publications.
He gave a typical example of a water project he secured in the past for Samamso Abiokora people through his engagement with the Media.
The Assemblymen said let us tell the truth and not lies that l would do this or that.
He said it is unfortunate that, some people complain that they voted but they did not get anything or profit from it.
The Assemblyman also said all electorates should exercise patience and it will be well as they continue to lobby for projects.
Hon. Ashiabie said his people are in need of Modern sanitation facilities but he said the MP of the area, Hon. Gizella Agbotui Tetteh has started providing them and she is yet to finish that of his Electoral Area for the benefit of the people.
He said now they are in dire need of a chip compound because at the moment they have to walk for long distances to get to hospitals in towns and nearby places like Bontrase and Bereku to access healthcare.
The Assemblyman therefore, appealed to the MOH to assist them in this direction as early as possible for the complains to reduce.
He also appealed to NGOs and influencial people in his area to come to his aid to improve the standard of living of their people.
He advised the Youth not to engage in any form of violence during this year’s elections to destroy the country.
The Assemblyman appealed to Mr. Eugene Arhin , Communications Director at the Presidency , and the MP for Awutu Senya West , Hon. Gizella to extend their ongoing development projects to his electoral Area too.
