In a recent development, Sammy Gyamfi the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has come forward to address what he perceives as blatant misinformation from Hon. Asenso Boakye, Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for the Bantama Constituency.

Gyamfi cited a video excerpt of an interview between Asenso Boakye and Ace Broadcaster Bola Ray of Star FM, where Boakye was reportedly struggled to name five major achievements of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region.
However, what caught the attention of many was his claim that the Kumasi Airport had been upgraded to international status under the Akufo Addo/Bawumia’s government, which Gyamfi vehemently refutes.

According to Gyamfi, the Kumasi International Airport Redevelopment project is a testament to the legacy of former President John Dramani Mahama. He pointed out that Phase 1 of the project, completed in 2014 under the Mahama administration, saw the construction of a new runway and modern infrastructure, leading to the airport’s international designation.

Gyamfi further elaborated on subsequent phases initiated by Mahama, including the approval and commencement of Phase 2 in 2016 and Phase 3 in 2019. He emphasized that the completion of Phases 2 and 3 is pending, thereby debunking Asenso Boakye’s assertion that the NPP government is responsible for the airport’s international status.

In his statement, Gyamfi condemned what he sees as an attempt by the NPP to appropriate Mahama’s achievements and cautioned against further misinformation. He called on Asenso Boakye and the NPP to acknowledge the facts and refrain from misleading the public.

The NDC representative also criticized the NPP government for what he perceives as a failure to deliver significant projects in the Ashanti region, signaling a disconnect between the ruling party and its stronghold.

Gyamfi’s remarks underscore the political tension surrounding development claims and highlight the ongoing discourse between rival parties in Ghana’s political landscape.
